We don’t go to church. The children’s father would be proud to tell you he’s the son of a preacher-man, but apparently ever since he read “that damn French Bible”, as his preacher-man father used to call it, he apparently strayed far from the flock and never quite returned to said flock’s good graces.
Which was always fine by me, being the pagan sort that I am, and doing this. [Yes! I talk to dead people! Well not quite. But I can. Sort of. Not that I do. Not really. Well, you be the judge.]
Still, I am interested in and accepting of all religions, provided said denizens don’t have a crushing need for me to agree with them and join in as well. My children attend a Waldorf school, and while in this country these schools tend to be non-denominational, there is a definite Christian element that is present, though they study other religions also. But it’s fine, I’m okay with it, and I don’t look to it as indoctrination, even though for instance the 3rd grade curriculum is based on stories of the Old Testament. I’m probably stepping on some toes here, and I certainly don’t mean to offend my, what, twelve readers (and I luuuurvee you! all of you!), but I view that curriculum as literature, and I’m glad my children have/will be exposed to it.
So it was interesting, and well, a bit shocking, to hear Nathaniel the other day spouting off about something or other and referring to “that stupid woman Eve”.
My jaw dropped, I (ineffectively) stifled a laugh, and we went on. Now that I see it in print and without the context (my notes for this post read only “that stupid woman Eve”), it looks, well, misogynistic.
Oops.
Come here, son. Let me explain a few things to you……..
