shock and er, uh, shock

children? what children? Add comments

I’ve mentioned before that my mom reads this blog. So if you must look away, do so now, because what’s immediately following is a message just for her:

Hey, mom, remember the day I called you up on the pay phone near my apartment in Arizona, the one that I used because I couldn’t yet afford a real phone? I had some news for you that day, remember what it was? No? It was the time when I told you that you were going to be a grandmother, remember? And after you came to again, you told me something on the order of “how dare you” and we signed off. I think you were really ticked that I had made you suddenly old before you were ready for it. Remember that? I have to say, by the way, that you’ve become a really great grandma, but I guess the idea took some getting used to.

I just wanted to let you know that turnabout is fair play and it’s my pleasure to let you know that in a few months you’re going to be a great-grandmother.

And we won’t even discuss what that makes me.

Okay everyone, you can all come back now, I’m done.

What? You mean you stayed for that highly personal message?

Shit.

My cover is blown.

[By the way, this will make Eric an uncle at age three, which I'm sure will be highly amusing to him one day.]

My son has an aunt and uncle that are slightly older than him and an uncle that is younger than him. It was hilarious when they were little and he would run around calling them “uncle!”

    Congrats!!
